Audience theory : 
           is an element of thinking that developed within academic literary theory and cultural studies.
           (Confirm with the audience's level of passivity or activity we can discuss about a few audience theories correlated with their reception towards media and the effect media creates.)

Types of audience:

        An audience is a group of people who participate in a show or encounter a work of art, literature (in which they are called "readers"), theatre, music (in which they are called "listeners"), video games (in which they are called "players"), or academics in any medium. Audience members participate in different ways in different kinds of art; some events invite overt audience participation .

  1.  Mass audience :Group consuming commercial TV programmes.
  2. Niche audience:people with unique interest.
  3. Individual audience

  • Hypodermic needle effect: is a model of communication suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. 
  • Cultivation theory: examines the long-term effects of television.
  • Reception theoryis a version of reader response literary theory that emphasizes each particular reader's reception or interpretation in making meaning from a literary text.
  • Uses and gratification theoryis an approach to understanding why and how people actively seek out specific media to satisfy specific needs.
